Do you ever look at a big, empty field and imagine a huge herd of elephants, mammoths, or brontosaurs stampeding through it? I do. A lot.

My passion for the natural world is what inspires much of my writing. I grew up reading the arctic stories of Jack London, and I enjoy the prehistoric world of Michael Crichton. Most of all, though, I love the boundless vision of Michael Ende, author of The Neverending Story. When I write, I try to create a world that the reader wants to stay in, that stimulates thought as well as imagination, and that gives people something they can take with them.

My new trilogy, The Feral World, takes place 3,000 years from now, after an asteroid has destroyed civilization, and when people live as hunter-gatherers again. It's the story of a small band of people who are looking for a new home. Once they find it, they must defend it against an advanced race of conquerers from another land. The first book is called Migration of the Kamishi, and the second is Trials of the Warmland. The final book, Riders of the Mapinguari, is due for release in May 2009.
