My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

I received Christ as my personal Savior when I was five years old, and I have striven to dedicate my life and talents to Him ever since then. When I was just ten, my parents moved to Germany, which was a life-changing event in my life. Later in my twenties, we lived in Great Britain, where I was able to write my first novel, which was placed in my heart by God to write, and I was able to do research for my second novel which I have started working on recently. My first real brush with writing was in a creative writing class I took in high school, where a poem of mine was published, and then I attended Colorado Christian University and discovered that I had a gift for writing lyrics, which come more naturally to me than pure poetry. I have since written forty songs, half of which are contemporary christian. My favorite authors are D.H. Lawrence ("Sons and Lovers" is an awesome book), Jane Austin, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and romance writers such as Victoria Holt, Laura Black, and Barbara Cartland. My songwriting has been greatly influenced by John Michael and Terry Talbot, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and Bonnie Raitt.

Additional Information

My first novel, "The Island of Refuge" is available through Publish America and other popular on-line stores. It is an inspirational mystery/romance about a young woman who helps an escaped convict to clear his name of a murder charge, not realizing that the truth behind the unsolved murder will have an ironic bearing on her own life. I am now dabbling with writing drama. My first play, a one-act titled "Taxi Gab" was performed April 12 by the Jacksonville State University drama department.
I also am a performing singer/songwriter, having played at places like Celtic Connections Folk Festival in Glasgow, Scotland, Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, GA, and Juice, Java, Jesus in Jacksonville, AL.

Christmas In The Country
Mary Cox-Bilz, author of five books and mouth-artist of a greeting card line and numerous artworks, has a birth defect that left her a quadriplegic. Fiercely independent, she types with a mouth stick and draws with a pen held between her teeth. As editor and illustrator, Mary announces to writers her newest project, the "Christmas In The Country Writing Contest."
