I've always written. Writing chose me. Who in their right mind would want to be a writer? Evelyn Waugh's "Vile Bodies" inspired me to become a gossip columnist, for David Bailey's late "Ritz" Newspaper. While I 'bitched' for "Ritz", I moonlighted as a freelance film critic and diary writer on Fleet Street, in the Good Old Days of machine gun sounding manual typewriters, chain-smoking, liquid lunches and nervous breakdowns.
