J-M Rocard received his doctorate of Physics from the Sorbonne in 1957. He then went to the University of British Columbia as a Postdoctoral Fellow (1958-1959). For 2 years he was a Research Fellow at the TI Resarch Laboratory (1959-1961, Dallas) (working on Caesium ion engines) and for the next 4 years a senior research scientist at the Litton Space Laboratory (Beverly Hills) (working in the field of Plasma physics).
