A woman born on Friday 13th struggles with a string of bad luck and tragedy before finding a way to live with her fate.

Background Information

It must be that funny English accent that gets people asking,

"That is not a Virginia accent I hear?  Where are you from?"

"How did you end up here in Virginia?"

When I tell people I am 2nd generation Kenya born and went to school in South Africa. My Grandmother went out to Kenya in 1910 as Beryl Markham's governess and my father was sent to Kenya during the first World War to protect it against Tanganyika (Tanzania), and that I was orphaned by the time I was 15, more and more questions are asked, and when told the answers so many people have said,

"You need to write a book about your life,"

So now I have written the book and when asked,

"How long did you live in France?"

"Where is your son now?"  and I say

"It is all here in the book, you need to read it for the answers.  I would be giving away too much if I answer those questions."

Most of my life I have been a chef, but in the last three years I have been a hostess in the Englsih restaurant where I have been working since just after 9/11, when I came to the US.  Yes, I was in the air on 9/11 and spent 5 days in Gander, NF, with 10,000 other passengers.

So thanks to all my customers for pushing me into writing and publishing my book, I have even more to talk to them about, and a marvelous friendly way to sell my book.

You need to read it.  You will laugh and cry and sigh.....

I never thought I had anything but a normal life but I find that my life has been far too exciting and adventurous to be normal.  Only in telling the story do I realise that I have had an extraordinary privileged life with lots of ups and downs.

Birth Place
Mombasa,  Kenya
Additional Information

I am writing my 2nd book which I think will be called "Pigs and Foie Gras". Every chapter will start with a recipe and a story related to the the recipe will follow. Originally I was going to write about France, where I lived for 13 years, but with persuasion from some of my readers I will be writing about all the countries I lived in: Kenya, South Africa, England, France and US with recipes from the different countries.
