Background
Information
|
|
Brian was born and educated in New Zealand (North Island), and first went to Australia to work on a cattle station in 1957. He worked on huge properties where the big mobs of cattle used to run and many of the people he met there had larger-than-life quality. He has been a sheep and cattle drover, a shearer, a fencer, a saddler and a dairy farmer. He now lives with his wife Carene on a property near Toowoomba where they have bred and trained many beautiful Arabian horses.
Brian was influenced greatly in the early days by the men he worked with, and later by Mr R M Williams, whom he met while residing in North Queensland. He worked with RM in establishing the Australian National Bicentennial Trail (formerly known as The National Horse Trail) from Melbourne to Cooktown, and remained close friends until RM passed away.
Recognising that the skills he learned in the early days in the 'bush' were slowly disappearing, Brian began writing of his experiences in a way to preserve these for future generations.

Accomplishments

Brian has published 3 books. The first "The Forky Stick" which has very short anecdotes of his life related to the uses of a forky stick. This was self-published in 1988.
The next 2 books "The Brumby Mare" and "The Moonlight Stallion" were published in 2005 and 2006. These are longer non-fiction short stories, also of his experiences. They have had excellent reviews by newspapers throughout Australia.
Brian and his family have been made life members of The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame.

Additional Information
|
|
Brian is currently writing more stories and hopes to self publish these when ready. In 2006 he had two ankle replacements done, to repair damage from an automobile accident many years ago. The successful operations have relieved him of the constant pain he has had for many years.
He hopes to set up a website soon.
