Many great musicians were recorded in the first half of the 20th century with poor recording techniques. Their records display only a shadow of their true brilliance.

With computer technology, it should be possible to remaster their works, note-for-note, by not only enhancing what is there, but by embellishing each note with the full range of harmonics and attack.

This would be done by inference: the computer would select from billions of options in its databank to select the most perfect note and phrase for any particular moment.

Fritz Kreisler could be reincarnated as a young prodigy.

And, to take it a step further, you could program a sound avatar of Jascha Heifetz and have him play works that he never recorded.

And, to take it to the ultimate limit, you could create a perfect violinist out of bits and pieces of all the past greats.


And, there's no stopping you from creating an avatar composer who is a combination of Beethoven, Bach and Satie...
