Woody Strode's Body on Display at Disneyland

You remember actor Woody Strode as the gladiator who fought Kirk Douglas in the arena in Spartacus, (see above video) or as one of The Professionals along with Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin and Robert Ryan.

Woody has left us, but did you know that he's still dancing at Disneyland and still waving a salute to passengers on the Mark Twain as it circles the 'Rivers of America' in Frontierland?

According to Disneyland Vice President Tony Baxter:

"In 1954, Harper Goeff, the designer of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland, hired Woody to make a mold of his great muscularity for the African natives in that ride. Yes, that's Woody, times four, dancing around on your right, as well as jumping up with spears on your left. Goeff used the same mold for the bodies of Frontierland's Native Americans, too."

Now when you see those robotic characters, you can give a smile and think, Well, Woody's still fighting Spartacus on dvd and he's still entertaining us here at Disneyland.

I had the pleasure of meeting Woody and he was very gracious and appreciated his success. He would sign his Spartacus photos by inscribing:  I let Spartacus live - Woody Strode

You can get Woody's autobiography Goal Dust in paper or Kindle at amazon: http://goo.gl/AdYNvE
