Melissa is just an average thirteen year old with a semi average life until she moves into an eighteenth century farmhouse. There she discovers that the house is haunted by two ghosts - one good and one evil. With the help of her stepsister, they unravel an age-old mystery and solve an unsolvable crime; one that was never intended to be solved. Many evil hauntings attempt to prevent the girls from discovering the truth. It's a race against time and a battle of wits to see which will prevail - the living or the dead.

I was awakened from a deep sleep, by the sound of walking in the attic. I laid there, wondering if I was dreaming, listening to the steady clomping above me as the footsteps repeatedly went from one side of the house to the other, and thinking of all the things Josh had said to me. It was William. That much was clear and as far as I was concerned, his constant vigil to irritate me was quickly coming to an end. He made me look like a fool one too many times and I was going to put up with his nightly disturbances any longer. I wasn't easily defeated and unfortunately I was very hard headed. It was dark and quiet upstairs as I stepped out into the hallway. The wood floor was cold on my bare feet and I welcomed it. It reminded me I was awake and alive and doing something I really had no business doing. The only light to guide me came from the pole-light shining in the hallway window. The walking sounds were very loud and sounded angry, but I continued to slowly pad down the long stretch of hallway that lead to the attic door.
