My dad passed away in 2005. I miss him a lot but my mom was married to him for 55 years. She’s got dibs. She also has Alzheimer’s and for now at least, fond memories of him. Some people might find it creepy, but she has his ashes in an urn in her room in the assisted living facility so they can chat.
We took her on vacation with us last month to Missouri and one of our stops was the Crystal Bridges Art museum near Rogers, Arkansas where I took her picture. Walmart, of all the seemingly least likely sponsors, spent a pile of money to build the facility and acquire significant artwork.
I know, I miss him too
Though I realize you haven’t a clue
That it’s father’s day
And that I am without
Except for pleasant memories
So for that I’ll not pout
I’ll celebrate what was
In the man that we had
For you a lost soul mate
For me a fine dad
