Shifting Sands Of Time

Jan and I traveled to Tybee Island from her Dr’s Appointment in Charleston yesterday. I knew it would be tough for this is the place that my late wife Leah and I would stay. Yet in order to move on, I knew I must face the past and put those demons at bay. Little here has changed and much remains the same and even though I still hear her voice, I understand it now in the words of its OK. For God hath made all thing perfect in His time…not ours.

Shifting Sands Of Time

Journeys traveled upon roads of a hallowed past.

Thick with memories, laden with dreams meant to last.

I stare blankly at the open sea, and likewise she stares at me.

Oh the years, oh how great are the thoughts of heart and mind.

Yet a new day has come and as I walk these sandy shores…

I see; I feel the ever shifting sands of ever moving time.

The memories do linger and much remains the same.

Sometimes in a wave I hear her voice as Leah would say, “It’s OK.”

Now again it is upon these very same shifting tracts of sand.

It is here once again in this magical place I find out who I am.

I have seen the places that Leah and I thrice yearly did roam.

I have tasted the salt and the sand of what we once called our second home.

Yet now the times have changed, much like the dunes and the shifting sand.

I today with another true love stroll this very same beach hand in hand.

For Jan, she is my girl, and I am her man.

Sadness for what was is quickly replaced by what now God deemed to be.

It is only by facing the haunting of our past that we truly become free.

Together tonight on the deck on my long ago dreams…

Jan and I watched a beautiful storm at sea.

It was in the thunder I could hear Leah once again say…”Da I will always love you and with Jan you will be ok.”
