One night
While lying under
A sky of lonely stars
I dreamt something
I’d never seen in a dream before
Once upon a midnight time
Oh how it seems so long ago
On a cool may night
Only three years ago
Something was different
This was no ordinary night
There was a chill climbing up my spine
Just brushing it aside
I fell asleep not thinking
What might come my way?
There was soon a rustle in the bushes
Not that far off
A million things
Racing through my mind
Was this to be the end for me?
Or was it only the beginning
Out of the shadows walked a dog
A dog of black and tan
I knew to be dead
Appeared before my eyes
Bringing joy and agony
As I started to cry
He came and comforted me
Just as he always had
I’d been waiting to
See him again
Was he bringing a message?
Or was it really just a dream
Either way
I’ll never forget
My midnight dream
