As I was walking thru the woods
I saw a beautiful butterfly.
It landed on a purple flower
And spread its wings in the moonlight.
My butterfly, though you’re gone by now,
Your dying breath still lives on somehow.
Oh butterfly, may you always be
With wings of gold at midnight
As I was walking thru the woods
I saw a lady falling.
She landed on my butterfly
And her basket of goods went flying…
My butterfly, you’re gone by now;
Your living breath was stilled somehow.
Oh butterfly, may you always be
With wings of gold at midnight
As I was walking thru the woods
I saw her butter flying
It landed on the lady’s hair
And spread out like wings in the moonlight.
My butterfly, though you’re gone by now,
Your dying breath was avenged somehow.
Oh butterfly, may you always be
With wings of gold at midnight!
