A simple tribute to my peaceful and beautiful hometown, Cateel. A tiny town overlooking the Pacific Ocean, propped above sea level by solid natural mountains, on the eastern coast of Southern Philippines. Estimated population: 10 thousand
Sweet Rivers of Home
A happy childhood spent on a once sleepy town
The moonlight stood witness
As we play endlessly
Sounds of laughter so carefree
And joyful screams
Like ice tinkling in a glass of wine
Remembering fills my heart with gladness
Beautiful memories of happiness and heartaches
Of unspeakable pain of loss
And the joyous celebration of triumph
Each time I set foot on your fertile grounds
It never fails to evoke a feeling of contentment
Within my soul
The sweetness of the summer breeze
Carrying a lilting melody in the air
As if trying to wake
A song long hidden in my heart
And find its lyrics
Along the gentle rapids of a cascading waterfall
Leaving a trail of pristine foam
Glittering under the starlit skies
Rustling through the scent of wildflowers
There’s just magic everywhere!
I can hear the soft calls of a night owl
Like an out of tune violin
Rupturing the serenity of the night
Great waves smashing upon sandy shores
A legacy of the open seas below
Can be heard in the middle of my slumbers
Streets lined with bright bougainvillas
Orange, red, white and yellow gumamelas
The welcoming smiles of the townsfolk
Speak of an open hand ready to serve
With generosity and kindness
What more can I say?
All of these wonderful things and more
Can be felt and found along the sweet rivers of home.
