Writer's Wall

For many of us, the blank screen or page is a haunting curse. Known as the proverbial “block,” it taunts us until its not.

Writer's Wall

Tenacious peace abounds within
but the breeze wafted silk of its voice
reaches not the gravel roil of mind's madness

From where do these costumed barbs emerge
these ice encrusted mirages of sight
once fertile echoes of life's pronouncements
abundance for the imagined
satiation for resolute hope

A break in the overcast appears
our muse buoyed creation
refusing to become yet another wisp of evaporative chance
holds fast the opportunity

Voracity rains down on our resistant ceiling of fear
to imbue the quill with courage to prevail
even as stubborn imagination holds tenuous
the freedom to fail

And

Like dutiful sentinels
these fissions of creative will
refuse to become inert
even as weakness seeks to contain

For just as infinity knows not an end
so too the creative energy within
perceives the writer's fingers
but capricious slaves
to vision's impatience
hesitant voicing's waitfulness
insistent Time's triumphant moment

Alas

One's own summit appears in sight
a spire risen from the desert
caring not its destiny
imagining simply the ah hah
holding firm the resolve
being all one's lexicon allows

The pen touches paper
and a page's testimony releases
another moment's reckoning
forever the author's reason for living
the tomorrows of our yesterday
for respected readers of today
