The Furnace Of Affliction!
By Inspire Hope
Be blessed and inspired as you read!
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to a graven image of king Nebuchadnezzar and faced the burning firey furnance, which was made even hotter than before. The king was furious with them! Look a little closer and listen to their reply from the book of Daniel 3:16-18, " Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve ios able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnance, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O King. But if not, be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. " There faith was unshakable, not even losing their lives moved them. Lean a little closer as this scene unfolds from verses 21-22 of the fore mentioned chapter, " Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnance. Therefore because the King's commandment was urgent, and the furnance exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. " Miraculously these three Hebrew men remained unharmed: actually the fire freed the rope that had them bound! Not even the scent of smoke was on their clothes, and a fourth man showed up with them in the furnance, who was likened unto the Son of God.
Moses experienced God through the burning bush, which was on fire, yet not consumed. Job lost all of his children and possessions, and was soley afflicted. Yet he remained faithful to God. Listen to what Job said, in the book of Job 13:15, " Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him. " The woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years said in the book of Luke 5:28-29, " For she said, if I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. " Let's bring this closer to home. Do you feel as if you are in the furnance of affliction ? Your family maybe torn a part on every side. Rebellious children doing their own thing, with no regard for God. The mortgages are past due and funds have been depleted. Your health seems to be failing too, you are in the furnance of affliction. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 53:4, " Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge ? Who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God. " Your furnance maybe none of the above. Yet there is a guarantee that even while you are reading this what you are going through is as if you are in a furnance of affliction. You may not be able to tell anyone what you are going through, but I encourage you to begin this day to call upon the name of the Lord in the midst of your furnance of affliction. He will hear you and come to your rescue, as He did for the three Hebrew boys. He did for Job, Yes He did it for Moses, who had just murdered an Egyption: and He did for the woman who had the issue of blood. He did it for me me, now He will do it for you! God does not discriminate, I tell you He will do it for you! Can I tell you ? In the furnance of affliction is where you really experience God in an intimate way! It is in this furnance of affliction the chaff is driven away ! Everything that is not of God is burnt away, and in total surrender your response is, " Lord not my will but Thine be done. " In the furnance of affliction comes the realization......no flesh shall glory in His presence, and that carnality is an to God! In the firnance of affliction you experience Him as your all in all. At this very moment get up from where you are and begin to give God thanks in the midst of what you are going through! Yes rejoice in your furnance of affliction. Continue to be faithful, with the understanding that your attitude plays a significant role in all you are going through. May God your Heavenly Father infuse you with His love to heal your deep hurts and pain, to display an attitude of gratitude to those who oppress you sorely: and do many hurtful things to you to vex your soul. May these words the pen wrote stregthen you in the midst of your furnance of affliction.
