A practicing board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Darden North has written three nationally-awarded hardcover novels, most notably Points of Origin recognized in Southern Fiction by the Independent Publisher (IPPG) Book Awards. The screenplay of his third novel Fresh Frozen is set for film production in 2011 by producer Frank Vitolo. North has served as a panelist at “Murder in the Magic City” (Birmingham, AL), “Author! Author! Celebration of the Written Word” (Shreveport LA), “Murder on the Menu” (Wetumpka, AL), “Thriller Author Panel – 2008 Southern Independent Book Association (SIBA) Show” (Mobile, AL), and “The Writers’ Block - 2009 SIBA Show (Greenville, SC) and has exhibited at the Texas, Kentucky Bluegrass, and South Carolina book festivals as well as at the Mississippi Picnic in New York’s Central Park. As a speaker and facilitator, he conducted workshops on writing mysteries and promoting authors’ work at the 2010 Southern Expressions Writers Conference.
North actively promotes his own writing through television and radio interviews as well as through personal speaking engagements and the Internet. July 2011 marks 25 years of fulltime medical practice, a background that lends unmistakable authenticity to his mystery and medical thriller novels, stories set in the contemporary South with intense character relationships and unexpected plot lines.

Accomplishments: Darden North, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who lives in Jackson, Mississippi, where he practices medicine at Jackson Healthcare for Women, PA, and writes popular fiction. North’s first novel HOUSE CALL was independently published in hardcover in 2005 followed by paperback release in October 2007. His second hardcover novel POINTS OF ORIGIN was recognized in Southern Fiction in the 2007 Independent Publishers Book Awards. HOUSE CALL was a Mystery/Suspense Finalist in the 2008 Indie Book Awards. Both novels have received numerous published reviews. North is a member of Mystery Writers of America; the Mississippi Writers Guild; the Southern Writers Group; PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association; Crossroads Film Society; as well as a brother member of Sisters in Crime. He attended the 2005 Oxford (MS) Conference for the Book; presented at the 2006 Southern Independent Book Association Show (Orlando, FLA); exhibited at the 2007 Bluegrass Book Festival (Lexington, KY); and was a 2008 author panelist at both Murder in the Magic City (Birmingham, ALA) and Murder on the Menu (Wetumpka, ALA). Most recently he exhibited at the 2008 South Carolina Book Festival in Columbia, SC.

POINTS OF ORIGIN (100,000 words/hardcover) In Points of Origin, the death of 19-year-old patient Flowers Ridley costs Dr. Dan Foxworth his reputation, his fortune, his plastic surgery dynasty, and ultimately his own life. HOUSE CALL (100,000 words/hardcover/paperback) As young Dr. Knox Chamblee struggles to establish a medical practice in a southern town, both his social and professional conquests are derailed by a psychotic killer. In House Call no one connects the first victim, an attractive hospital nurse discovered floating in a bloody bathtub, to the near-frozen body of Dr. Cullen Gwinn, Chamblee’s mentor and chief proponent, found at the base of a deer stand. The primary police suspect is Dr. Aslyn Hawes, Chamblee’s female senior partner and overbearing nemesis, whose jealousy of the victims cloaks her in suspicion. In fact, Hawes resents virtually every non-patient resident of the town with the exception of the teenage ambulance driver who becomes a fixture in her Jacuzzi. That same young man sexually tempts Jay Rutledge, the conniving hospital administrator and the killer’s next target. As the murder investigation unfolds around him, Knox Chamblee evolves from potential suspect in the nurse’s murder to victim of a totally different crime – career sabotage due to reverse sexual discrimination. By squelching his own resentment and fulfilling his medical obligations, Dr. Chamblee overcomes his mentor’s death and the resulting career threat caused by a killer who has slaughtered out of mistaken identity.

As the rest of the world is consumed with terrorists, biological warfare, and the price of world oil, a state-of-the-art medical facility and a circle of unlikely associates become consumed with the most basic of human functions --- and all for profit. Outcasts of a renewed baby boom that separates the United States from other wealthy nations, a young policeman and his tormented wife fail miserably to produce a family. Their futile attempts to become parents have not only pushed Wesley and Carey Sarbeck to the brink of bankruptcy but nearly cost Carey her life. However, there is one last hope for them: a catalogue of human embryo donors peddled by a woman whose standards are easily dismissed for the right price. This seemingly last chance for the Sarbecks to satisfy their place in middle America tosses them in the middle of a local gruesome murder, the world of Hollywood celebrities, and a heist of human embryos and eggs.
