Music has always been a major part of my life. My mother was (and still is, when health permits) an opera singer, she taught me to play the piano, and at age 15 I got my first guitar. I have played in bands regularly ever since then. My wonderful wife Bev is a drummer and has been a fantastic source of support in my writing career.
My current band is called "neil", and is named after a character in the BBC TV comedy series "The Young Ones". The stories behind band names formed the basis of my first book, a music reference entitled ROCK FORMATIONS. I was inspired to first begin researching this fascinating topic by the band name Steely Dan (which I discovered was named after a steam-powered dildo!), and continued collecting and researching names for almost 10 years before finally publishing.
