I'm a first-time novelist, publishing Indie style. I'm out to prove that in today's book marketing world, by subsidizing publishing costs through a "self-publishing" company, I can do for myself what a traditional book publishing route will do.

Background Information

I have a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Following course completion, I fulfilled an independent research study project on the psychophysiology of trauma. I'm especially interested in learning how trauma affects brain patterns and influences how one may interpret his/her surroundings (PTSD, anxiety disorders).  For my current novel, with pleasure, I delved into the mechanics of Stockholm Syndrome.  Before attending UCLA, I worked as a court stenographer for 12 years. It's the combination of these arenas, the psychology of events and courtroom personalities, that provide fertile ground for my explorative literary works. I currently reside in California with my husband, Bruce McNall, former owner of the L.A. Kings hockey team, and my three children: Drew, Paige, and Whitney

Birth Place
Los Angeles, CA USA
Additional Information

"Speaking Truths" is the story of Landon Starker, an anger imbued, foul-mouthed delinquent. In the same vein as Holden Caulfield, Landon arrived at his existence through a tragedy, wherein his psyche became fractured. For emotional success, Landon must work to recognize how his mind has engaged in self-preservation: a combination of repressing memories and re-defining reality so it doesn’t hurt when life’s recordings invade the mind. Landon starts to confront these repressed memories and warped views of his past when he’s removed from his abusive home in Leigh, Nebraska and placed into a counseling center. He attempts a re-entry into an “old family” he thought had abandoned him. And while this therapeutic process seems to soothe his PTSD and Stockholm Syndrome, another revelation demands that Landon search his repressed memories for the details of killing he has no recollection of occurring. The "Truths" flood in, leaving the reader with a profound sense of how trauma robs the self of mind … and spirit
