Hi! My name is Denise and I am new to this website. I'm currently teaching English classes at Trident Technical College in South Carolina, and working as a freelance journalist for local publications, while I finish up my MA in English. I've been an ardent writer all my life, dabbling in everything from poems to magazine articles. I also adore reading, and I hope to find some good material here at

Background

I'm one of those people who is inspired by everyday things. Bugs, traffic, lemons falling from a tea glass--my poetry has a tendency to not be about large, grand themes such as war or romance, but rather, it takes the mundane and attempts to make it remarkable. My influences over the years have been the people who made me love literature. My late professor, Dr. Paul Rice, was definitely one of my inspirations. A few of my elementary teachers helped foster my love for books. And of course, fellow readers and writers help keep my enthusiasm alive.
