New author of 'Why Have Babies?', written by a supergranny with kids for all would-be-parents, parents and grandparents

I was deliberately pregnant and married at 16 in 1980, having just finished school. It was quite obvious in those days that unmarried and young mums were frowned upon and many were still encouraged to have their babies adopted. I distinctly remember a brother- in- law telling me how I had 'ruined' my life. I didn't have a particularly happy childhood, nor did my husband and so it was I suppose looking back a way of making our own 'happy' family. And despite being terribly poor, living from week to week and my husband doing two jobs to support us, we did a bloody good job of parenting despite all the odds. No one expected our marriage to last and after 29 years, two adorable kids, who have become bright intelligent successful adults and two equally beautiful grandchildren we are still happily married. I went on to train as a nurse, not an easy feat with kids in tow and have been a Director of Nursing for well over a decade which I truly enjoy.

I have since a small child always wanted to write, but as a young mum, when I read through the array of parenting books I was disappointed with what I saw. I don't know of another book that looks at the pros and cons of having children, covers the trials and tribulations of parenting from preconceptual care, pregnancy and child care, right through to leaving home. As a 'young' Granny I have literally been there, done that and written THE book, written from the heart, something I would have loved to read before I became a parent and something I hope my children, their children and who knows the rest of the world will treasure forever.

Birth Place: Adelaide,  Australia

Why Have Babies? by Helen c Davis
Being a parent is a lifetime event and there are few quarantees. Nobody can foretell the future. We can only do our best and try to be optimistic about the outcome. At the endof the day whether by destiny, fortune,or accident the question remains; why have babies? Perhaps ultimately we do so because they will initiate a brighter outlook for generations to come....
