Jack Getze spent nine years as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, a total of fifteen years covering national business and economic issues for the Times, the L.A. Herald-Examiner, the London Times, and numerous business magazines. Getze later sold stocks and bonds for a regional securities firm on the New Jersey Shore. His debut novel, BIG NUMBERS, features stockbroker Austin Carr. So does BIG MONEY, due March 1, 2008. "Back in my day, when reporters for the Los Angeles Times worked on typewriters, the editorial department was full of old rimrats with much advice on writing great novels. They told a young reporter/aspiring novelist to read The Maltese Falcon by Dashiel Hammett, The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, and Double Indemnity by James M. Cain. I did, and was captured by the hardboiled style and action of these crime fiction greats. But my love and forte is humor, and I'm also a big fan of Carl Hiaasen and Janet Evanovitch."
