Civil War amateur historian for seventeen years. I guess, I would have to say a major influence was my oldest brother, and the fact I grew up during the cold war. I now present, in first person, the life of a Union Soldier, 1862-1865, that fought with the Twentieth Maine Regiment. His name: Nathan Small Clark. A lot of my writing is created through this citizen soldiers 'mind'. Though I have never met him in the physical sense, I have through the writng in his diary. Also, I have spent many hours on Civil War battlefields, the last ten years, from Gettysburg to Antietam, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Wilderness and more. Oh, such brave and courageous men . . . on both sides. We must never forget, the soldiers, be they with North or South, were all Americans.

I have finished, completed, and followed through on the first of many manuscripts to come! My author signature is James "Gus" Filegar
A GRAND EVENT!
On July 3rd, 2003, in Gettysburg Pa., I had the priviledge and honor of meeting with the Great Grandson of Nathan S. Clark, the citizen soldier on which Fathers Sons and Brothers is based. Descendants of Sidney Clark, a brother of Nathan, of whom I also write of in the novel, were also in town. We had quite a time, exchanging information and photographs. After the historical fiction series is complete, I will then write and have published a biography of Nathan S. Clark. This has been a remarkable journey for myself, and I hope to bring you, the reader into it as well!
