Born in West Virginia to Burrel Harman and Priscilla Glancy Harman during the depression years, and growing up during World War II, I wanted to share the experience of life in rural and small town America during this time in our history. My First book, Father Was A Caveman in the Echoes In My Mind Triology, chronicles the experience of an American family during those years. I have received feedback from many readers who say they became so connected to the characters that they wanted to continue reading about them.
They have their opportunity ito do this (and new readers have the opportunity to meet them) in the second book, We Were Vagabonds, as it continues the story as the first year of the 1940s ends and World War II begins. The familiy's life makes another change as Burrel joins other civilians to do his part on the homefront to support the war effort . With his heartfelt vow to never be seperated from his children again, this begins the adventure of their lives as they follow the large defense construction jobs. Thus they join other American families as a new breed of vagabonds.
While this is written as a loving tribute to my father, the history of those times is brought to life as the family lives through what was the current events of World War II on the homefront.
I spent 17 years as a Girl Scout executive and nearly 4 years as a reader's columnist for The Newark Advocate in Newark, Ohio. I have also been a lifetime volunteer, first with Girl Scouts, before joining their staff, and now with The American Red Cross of Licking County. As a the wife, mother and grandmother, every minute I spend with my ever growing multigenerational family is a learning experience that will provide me with ideas for future books.
