"This is poetry that not only will make you feel something, but that will make you feel like a firecracker has gone off in your heart. Bold, brutal, beautiful - this is what Chicago poetry is all about."

- C.J. Laity Director, ChicagoPoetry.com

Background Information

Kathy Kubik's publications include: The Mississippi Review, Lily Lit Review, Hiss Quarterly, Poems Niederngasse, Wicked Alice, The Blueprint Review, Voices Magazine, T-zero Xpandazine, SaucyVox, ERWA, CleanSheets, Citizen32, VLQ and Mad Hatters' Review. This will be the third consecutive year that her poetry will appear in the HerMark Datebook published through WomanMade Gallery.

She says, "Poems are my fix, my ‘trashy novel’, pieces of me yet undiscovered. My hand in the cookie jar, soon to discover the milk chocolate morsels that have melted on my hands, a reminder for later. Each poem I read becomes a part of me."

Kathy has been writing since she could pick up a crayon, starting as early as four, etching plays in pencil featuring The Muppets. She loves creating something that started as a blank page. Though at times the blank page can be daunting, it is an empty canvas, waiting to be filled with words, characters and visions. Her influences are: Italo Calvino, Cin Salach, Ha Jin, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, and William Trevor.

She received her Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University. She is a member of many online workshops, her favorites being: This So Called Life, The Blueline and Writer's Village University, where she facilitates a group called Persist and Publish. She was also a member of the Senior Poet's Workshop there.

"Make it happen while the sun shines, girl" - Cin Salach
