It was probably inevitable that Kim (Brooks)Schuelke would become a writer. She read constantly--even if it was the side panel on a cereal box. Having learned to read from the KJV Bible, Fun With Dick and Jane was too boring. Instead, she developed an enjoyment of classical Greek and British authors.
While her three boys were young, Kim wrote and published a few articles for parenting publications. Writing was abandoned, however, as her children's needs and interests consumed more and more of her time. With her children nearly grown, Kim returned to college, this time earning a B.S. in elementary education.
Her sophomore Literary Criticism professor encouraged her to resume writing. He especially liked her sense of metre and skill with research. Upon graduation, Kim returned to writing.
Still not convinced of her ability, she enrolled with the Institute of Childrens Literature. When she completed the course, she was invited to enroll in an exclusive advanced course. By now, Kim had realized that she could write.
After a two year stint as President of the Butler Writers Guild, Kim began working on a fiction series for early readers. She is also completing a workbook on time for the same age group.
She recently launched her first website, www.thefunfamilies.com. She and her husband Eric reside in Butler County, PA where she substitute teaches and writes.
