After spending most of my adult life in educational settings, either earning Masters degrees in Physical Education and Counseling Psychology, coaching and/or teaching, in 1999, I decided to retire to Sanibel Island in southwest Florida. Sanibel is an environmental paradise where there is an abundance of wildlife. As an animal lover, I became involved in wildlife rehabilitation, volunteered for our local wildlife clinic, and became active in wildlife education for children. With four young grandchildren and many families visiting Sanibel from other states, I decided to tell some stories about Florida wildlife. My first book, DILLO - A Baby Armadillo's Adventure on Sanibel Island, turned out to be a 14 chapter, 2009 Eric Hoffer award-winning storybook about a baby armadillo with a permanent smile who becomes lost in a wildlife refuge. She meets 14 other animals as she tries to find her way back home. I became hooked as a storyteller and my second chapter book, Snowy Pea and the Ghost Crab, an educational and fully illustrated chapter book about shorebirds, won the 2011 Florida Publishers Association President's Award, silver medal in the category of Florida Children's Fiction. TROUPER - The True Adventures of a Blind Raccoon: The Beginning, is a 2011 release and the first in a series of true wildlife stories for children. It also is the beginning of an educational wildlife program for children called: Trouper's Teachings.
