Diagnosed PTSD, I wrote the book I wanted in my hand when I was admitted into the VA hospital. I needed answers to questions regarding a disorder about which mental health professionals had very little information. Fours years later, I am at peace, not only with the military rape, but also with my being a victim of childhood incest.
As a counselor for over 40 years, I share in my book what worked for me as I walk the path I led my clients on and describe what goes on inside those who have been abused. I also describe what traits abusers look for that will let them know who they can abuse. I describe PTSD flashbacks, giving the reader an inside look at the world we are forced to live in, until we learn how to put away the nightmares.
Sharing the pain is the only way we can allow it to unleash its hold on us. Our society, having denigrated incest and sexual assault, have made people afraid that they, too, will be disgraced if they share their traumas. I describe how, when shared through journaling and with the grace of compassion, the trauma can be turned into a life experience, and not something we nurture for the rest of our lives. I show you how you can come to terms with your traumas.
