My name is Linda Grover, I am a biological mother of three children, and a grandmother of 10 grandchildren. I am retired from foster parenting after 19 years, 1 year as a county foster parent, and 18 years as a therapeutic foster parent, with an organization in Upstate NY. When I was a foster parent my husband and myself became big advocates for foster parents, on subjects such as board rate increases, some kind of incentive programs for foster parents, paid respite programs perhaps, and we even went to Albany, NY. to talk to the higher ups. Needless to say, to my knowledge none of these things have happened yet. So basically that was my motivation to write my book, and tell my story, to continue to try and help foster parents even though I am not one anymore. No one knows better then I do, how tough of a job they are doing with very little incentive, and appreciation (other then loving children, and wanting to help them). I wrote my book with encouragement from one of the girls I worked with for years, and years. She knew parts of my story and kept telling me I should write a book, she was a very big motivator for me, so after I retired I did write my book. My major concern is to still try and help the foster parents, and adoptive parents. I would like to be able to start a foundation for a foster parent, and adoptive parent respite program, something I desperately think foster parents need so they don't burn out and we end up losing them. we cannot afford to lose these very special people. And I believe they definitely deserve some appreciation for the responsibilities they are taking on. I am a firm believer that our States take very good care of their foster children, but I feel they do not do enough for the foster parents to show them they are appreciated, and Thank You. I am dedicating 10 % of my earnings from my book to hopefully start this foundation, My goal is for other people to realize how important this cause is and possibly donate to it to. Hopefully we can start to help the foster parents, and adoptive parents. I know it is not much but it is a start. And hopefully our States will become more aware of how important foster parents, and adoptive parents are, and what would we do without them? So maybe, just maybe, the States will do more for their foster parents.
My Books Title: The Story Never Told
My book is a story about my abusive childhood, that I believe led me to the choice I made of becomming a foster parent, to help other children, of abuse. My goal is to help foster parents, and adoptive parents, by starting a foundation for a foster & adoptive parent respite program. I am retired now since March 2009, and decided someone had to speak up for the foster parents, and adoptive parents, so that is why I wrote my book. Thank You all foster& adoptive parents, I appreciate you, and I know there are many, many, others that appreciate you to. I am hoping alot of people read the book, the more people that read it the more foster & adoptive parents can be helped. And hopefully alot of the negativity surrounding foster parents will vanish when people realize how tough of a job it really is.
