She writes from the heart, and truly cares about the characters that she crafts. Every one of them is a living, breathing being who connects easily with the reader.
Lorrieann Russell does not write 'formula,' or 'commercial'. "I write the kind of stories that I like to read. I like to keep my characters real, all of them afflicted with the human condition, which means that sometimes the heroes falter, and the bad guys win, just like in life."
For her two novels, My Brother's Keeper and In the Wake of Ashes, Ms. Russell drew her inspiration from an obscure reference in her family genealogy, some 15 generations back. It was there she came across a fellow who's life came to a tragic end in 1597 at the age of 20, having been caught up in James IV's witch hunts. He soon became her model for William Fylbrigge, her tragic, charismatic protagonist. Borrowing some names from her genealogy, and inventing many more, Ms. Russell soon found the seed that has blossomed into two novels.

By trade, I am a graphic artist. My medium of choice is digital painting, and favor PC over Mac, which makes me somewhat of a renegade in the graphic world. I designed my own book covers.
Right now, I'm working on the third novel in the Fylbrigge series, working title By Right of Blood which is actually a prequel to My Brother's Keeper. In between plotting, I have been doing some freelance graphic work for other authors.
