I joined the Navy at age 18 in 1957, and spent the next 22 years repairing electronic equipment, teaching electronic theory in a classroom setting and serving on four aircraft carriers. I got to see the world and far away exotic places as well as do things that most folks just dream about. The Navy is truly an adventure geared with hard work and offers a reliable training ground that will prepare anyone willing, in a technial field of expertise. I retired as an E-8, Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1979 and started work as a Quality Engineer for Texas Instruments in the production of Seismic Oil Exploration Equipment, recognized for its superiority throughout the world. In 1986, I transferred to the Defense Systems Division which required special security clearances that preclude my mentioning most of the work I did even to this day. Of those Department of Defense Programs I can talk about, include HARM Missile, JAVELIN, JDAM, Joint Strike Missile and PCB Shop.
During my tenure in the Navy, I was one of 250 sailors selected to attend college on a full time basis where I attained an Associates Degree. I completed a BSIT degree in 1979 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Il., and a MBA from Hardin Simmons University, Abilene, Texas in 1985.
I am married to the former Shirley Sue Sellers of Shaw, Mississippi. Ours has been a happy marriage since May 12, 1959. 2009 is our Golden Wedding Anniversary Year. That is quite an accomplishment since we were in the Navy when we were first married and I was gone a lot of the time on aircraft carriers which will put a strain on any young couples marriage. Thank God ours was strong enough to survive. Many were not which we were unfortunate enough to witness.
After two careers, we moved back to the Magnolia State, and home, where we longed to be for the forty three years we were gone. Settling down in Taylorsville, we built a home on land we had bought and started to enjoy the retired life. It was when I started composing stories for my grand children I realized I really liked to write. Not long afterwards, my book, 'Stories From Liars, Friends and the Innocent' was published. I know God had a guiding hand in all that transpired and I am grateful for his direction and guidance.
