I guess you could say story telling and Western history run in my blood. My dad was born in Texas. He was a big man, about 6'3" and was a true cowboy as a young man before working for SP Railroad. When he and my mother were first married his parents and brothers and the newly wed couple (my folks) drove a herd of cattle from Texas to Montana. On the way, my oldest sister was born in Sante Fe. It seemed, of each of us 8 kids, only 2 were born in the same state. Anyway, my grandparents then raised hay for the cavalry up in Montana. My dad's grandfather on his mother's side was a Texas Ranger and his father was killed at the Alamo. Another of his Uncles was killed at a battle at Golaid. My grandmother on my mother's side was a New Mexico homesteader when it was rare for women to claim land as their own. She also was a school teacher in the early days of New Mexico.
