I am a nonfictional essayist and dramatic writer, probably most influenced by the literary works of Chester Himes, Richard Wright, Robert Beck, James Baldwin and Gill Scott Heron. As an aspiring Playwrite, I am also supremely influenced by the noted playwrite August Wilson. And as it is with all writers, I simply draw from my own social background and let that serve as the sole inspiration for most of my literary concepts. But unlike others, I must contend with, as chester Himes once desribed, the 'Black writer's dilemma' of either conforming to expected literary stereotypes, debunking them, or run the risk of being written off as either disingenuous or somewhat out of touch with reality. All of which, certain elements within my respective circles seem to vehemently disapprove of. Still, I feel it my obligation to put forth my worldly observations from my own perspective and in a manner which reflects the intelligent and sophisticated core of un-conventional characters with whom I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and interacting with, over the years.
