I have been writing about the brewing industry since 1984. Credits include contributing editor for Restaurant Management and Top Shelf magazines. I have also written for Beverage Media, New Brewer, Beverage Dynamics, and All About Beer magazine.
In September 1990 I began working for the Beverage Network/Beverage Media Publications as associate editor. Two years later, I was appointed managing editor, a position I held until July one year after that.
In 1994 I signed a contract with John Wiley & Sons Inc. to write "Beer Basics", my first book. It was published in July 1995. “Cooking & Eating with Beer” was published in May of 1997.
My weekly email newsletter, HOT TRUB/BEER BASICS, featuring news about the beer industry and the food service industry, has been published since October 26, 2000. With over 1,000 subscribers, it serves as a news source for over 200 print journalists across the United States and Canada.
Professional association memberships include: American Society of Journalists and Authors, Authors Guild, National Writers Union, North American Guild of Beer Writers, and am rated a "Recognized" beer judge by the Beer Judge Certification Program.
Additional memberships include: The James Beard Foundation, and The American Institute of Wine & Food.
The North American Guild of Beer Writers awarded me a silver Quill & Tankard award for Feature Writing/Food at the 1999 Great American Beer Festival.
