Life in America

Background Information

Richard E Sall MD grew up in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University. He is a General Surgeon who underwent the rigorous training of a surgical residency. Eventually becoming Board Certified in both Medicine and Surgery, he experienced almost every aspect of the medical delivery system over several decades. He now specializes in Occupational Medicine and continues to work in medical practice full time and lives with his wife in Central California. As a side venture, he started writing in 2001. It began as a wish to consolidate various reference materials in one place to make them easier to find. One thing led to another and a book called Strategies in Workers' Compensation was published in 2004 and focuses on medical management problems of injured workers. A second book called Behind the Union Curtain concerning injured workers was published in 2006. It chronicles the tumultuous history of labor unions in the U.S. beginning with the train wrecks in the 1800s. The story begins with the train wrecks in the 1800s, but primarily addresses the doctor/worker issues during the early 1900s and the development of labor laws and their effect on work today. His first novel titled Straightjacket published in 2006 is an insightful story about the coming of age of a surgeon and about love, hope, healing, and the high cost of medicine.
