A Southern California courtroom professional who retired to write, grow roses and lake-paddle in his red canoe.
Richard Lee Orey is a former official court reporter of the United States District Court and of the California Superior Court with 26 years of daily courtroom trial experience. Also a lawyer, he writes fiction to express his passions and, additionally, to let readers eavesdrop on true and forbidden happenings of life that burst out of secret, closed-to-the public judicial sessions dealing with the criminal acts of murderers, racketeers, and violent and seductive predators. "Knowledge of what these cancerous agents of society do and how they do it better enables us all to protect ourselves and our loved ones."
Despite and beyond this platform of experience, Richard is a hopeless romantic and feels blessed beyond belief.

Accomplishments: A Letter of Commendation from the Mayor of the City of San Diego for outstanding community leadership and a law school recipient of the prized American Jurisprudence Award.
Richard Lee Orey has appeared as keynote speaker in over two hundred law-related continuing education seminars and as guest lecturer in trial and discovery procedures for numerous professional and educational institutions, including the University of San Diego School of Law and the California Western University School of Law, and is a corporate founder and former officer of the California Court Reporters Association.
Like the kid he is sometimes, Richard still savors the memory that in his high school days he was a state champion finalist in track (the 800 meter run). At 76 years of age, he remains vigorous, involved and quite athletic. Watch for his bright red canoe on nearby lakes!

Though some of my postings here are in the nature of educational material, my most treasured offerings are those that stir your emotions and touch your heart and, perhaps, influence your life. One of my favorites is my short-short story You and Me, a pastiche based on my own life lifted from my sizzling psychological drama novel The Paradise of Revenge. To share my dramatic true-life short story of adventure, salvation and enduring love, be sure to review Rescue Me.
On a spiritual level, my poem Mother Teresa is the product of awakening at four o'clock in the morning with the sudden urgent calling to write something memorable about this saintly woman. The thousands of "hits" on this piece tell me my writing time was well spent. About one poem, Be Still and Hear My Voice, I measure its success and importance by the dozens of personal e-mailed messages I have received sharing with me how it has calmed their troubled spirit in the face of their wandering faith.
