My professional career was as writer and manager for the United States Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States of America. Following 36 years of government service, it is my pleasure to live in California. As an active member of the Inland Empire California Writers Club for eight years, I have enjoyed writing poetry and articles for the club's monthly magazine and for other publications. The friendship of writers is engaging for me; they, in my estimation, are the most fascinating creatures on earth.
Poetry, my infatuation, may be used to depict many facets of life, and writing it impels me to slow down and take a profound view of living: its beauty, struggles, tragedies, joys, passions, and challenges. I write poetry because I have been innately equipped by God to do so. The use of this virtuous endowment is for my selfish gratification, and it’s a human endeavor to paint images in words for others to savor. Poetry has a mysterious quality, lending itself to no single characterization. By writing it, I encounter the Divine and unite with poets of the past, present, and future in the growth and definition of this ancient art that educates, incites, placates, and arouses humanity. Poetry is celestial—sunny blue skies and alternately dark clouds veiling silver linings. Bearing wisdom, poetry is a depiction of all life enfolded with vicissitudes.
