I spent three years in the Marine Corps, including a year fighting in Korea. I never talked very much about my tour of duty in Korea because the memories were too painful for me to revisit. I finally reached a point in my life where I realized that I had to exorcise these ghosts from my mind. That's when I started thinking about writing this book. It wasn't until I retired that I had the time to do this. Another reason for writing this novel was to tell how it was to experience this part of the Korean War. Other than veterans who fought or served in Korea, relatively few people know anything about the second half of the war. Once the peace talks began in 1951, they became the sole focus of the media despite the fact that the war raged on for another two years. Numerous major battles were fought during this period and thousands more Americans died in a vicious type of fighting similar to the bloody trench-warfare of WW I. I wasn't comfortable writing my memoirs which is why I chose to write my book in novel form. All the characters are based on real Marines and most of the incidents happened as written.

IN THE SHADOW OF GLORY is my second novel. My first novel, THE ABANDONED, tells the story of of a group of American POWs who were left behind when the Korean War war ended and follows their lives up to the present time. It was published in 2000.
