From June 1995 to June 2006 I wrote a column for my community newspaper on almost a weekly basis. During this time, I decided to see if I could write something else. It started out as a lark. First week 400 words, the following week 300, then 500, etc. I decided at this point to make it into a paranormal romance. In 2003, when I reached 12,000 I joined the Romance Writer’s of America, and joined the local Hudson Valley chapter. It there was there, through their critique sessions, how much I didn't know about writing fiction. I made all the mistakes, a new writer could make. And with feedback I received on my own work and others, I began to grow as a writer.
After writing this story off and on for about two years, my wife suggested I write something for children. Watching the antics of my two cats gave me the inspiration to write an enchanting storybook about unconditional love and compassion. The story is an exploration of the life lessons common to all of us. While children are quite astute when it comes to learning new things, they also dislike being hit over the head with it, nor do they like being talked down to, I wrote the story in a casual, personal way,
Shortly after I had my completed manuscript, it was read by one of the women at the RWA chapter I've been going to. She said it had a few minor errors. And then said it was publishable. This woman is a publisher, an editor, and also owns a small religious publishing company. I now felt I had the green light to pursue a publisher. My book was picked up in the beginning of 2007 and was released at the end of November of that year. Currently I have two completed manuscripts for children books, starting a fourth, and am still working on my paranormal romance manuscript.
