The day I took personal responsibility for my existence is the day I hatched myself from the golden egg~

Background Information

Selene was born Deme Viktoria Selene Marianna in Papa, Magyarorszag on December 10, 1965. She was raised in communist Eastern Europe for the first nine years of her life by a father who immersed her in the literary classics, a modern mother who enjoyed the higher aspects of society, and lots of great aunts and uncles and grandparents who taught her not only the mythology of several cultures but the crafts that accompanied each.

At the age of nine she was transplanted to the United States, which began an entirely new adventure in her unusual life.

A highly attuned observer of human nature and behavior, she was an academic  oriented youth soaking up every bit of information  around her.

Exposed to the less favorable side of adolescents, she was an early advocate for student’s rights, advocating for  a safe haven within the education system for her victimized peers who were often at the receiving end of extreme damage of one form or another by the cruel and unmanaged behavior of those considered at the top of the pecking order.

She found her haven in literature and music. One of her earliest influences was Sylvia Plath whose Lady Lazarus altered the classic boundaries of poetry for Selene and permitted her to experiment with and cultivate her own poetic voice.

Even before she entered her teenage years, she found a fount of wisdom,  intellectual solace and enriched imaginative possibilities in the works of Harlan Ellison, Hermann Hesse, Kurt Vonnegut, Tanith Lee, Isaac Beshevis Singer and countless classic science fiction and fantasy authors.

Along the roads of maturation, through self education and highly sensitive observance of human behavior, Selene found a unique way to blend her almost mythic origins with modern day existence, which reflects in her eclectic style of conjoining classic mythology and cyberpunk in her writing.

Turbulent teen age years found her developing a sharp voice and fierce advocacy for human and animal rights.

After enduring a violent relationship for eight years, instead of remaining a victim, she became a vociferous advocate for battered women's rights.

Throughout all these years, Selene created and refined her poetry, almost a form of self therapy, giving shape to pain, creating hope for the future, developing enchantment, and captivating those around her with her literary voice.

In 2005, her first book CrowWoman & MudGirl was published, and thereafter  began her emotionally intimate relationship with her readers.

The following five books widened her audience to encompass almost every sociological demographic. Her writing has matured from personal works of endurance and pain to magical works incorporating mythology, fables, cross cultural scriptures, and delicious works of irony focusing on human nature manifesting in bodies of stories and anecdotal writings that have been known to send her audience into gales of raucous laughter.

Selene is a poetess that takes herself out of her writings and gives herself to her audience completely with no barriers.

Selene lives on the East Coast of the United States. She continues to pen enrapturing works that speak to the human mind and soul like few others, and continues to advocate for the HumanE being in all of us.
