I was born in Nottingham, England, home of the legendary Robin Hood, and apart from 5 years in Southern Ireland and 4 years in Scotland, have lived there all my life. I was brought up as an only child by my grandparents after the break-up of my parent's marriage when I was 5 years old. I later learned that I had a younger sister who was adopted at birth. We were reunited in 1982 when we were in our twenties. I have been married for over 40 years to my husband Stephen. We have a daughter, Emma, who married in 2000.
My life was turned upside down in 2001 when a surprise letter from an Aunt I had never met motivated me to search for Audrey, the mother I had last spoken to 30 years ago, only to discover that she had taken her own life in 1985. Overwhelmed with feelings of sadness, anger and guilt, and realizing for the first time how little I really knew about my mother, I began an obsessive search for answers - answers to the many questions I would now have asked Audrey personally, were she still alive.
"In Search of A Mother" documents the highs and the lows of my search. The satisfaction of finally uncovering the Truth about my mother, including her real name, contrasts with the pain of being unable to re-live the past - differently.
