I was born in Cleveland, TN. My parents met in New York City, where my mother was raised. My mother's family were all Italian immigrants with a strong Catholic background. I was raised by my mother and grew up as a Catholic.
My father was Scottish and was born in Trappe, Md. My father was raised in Cleveland,Tennessee at a Church Of God orphanage. My father's Scottish grandmother was a Church of God preacher. At the time, she traveled by covered wagon from Trappe, Md to the bible belt-Cleveland, Tn.
I first began writing poems at the age of six. Then, I started mailing them to my Italian grandmother, who lived in Bronx, New York. My grandmother Mildred, was actually my first reviewer. She would always write me back thanking me for the beautiful poems and how much it cheered her up.
Choosing, The Last Child for my first book has changed my life as much as it brought me to a place, where I could share the most difficult and deepest parts of me. Writing my true life autobiography was written by courage that was given to me from up above. With the guiding grace of the spirits of my immigrant Italian ancestors, whom unveiled first to me their greatest passion to be Americans. This story was wrote under extraordinary circumstances and the spirits made it perfectly clear it was in fact protected by them. The haunting paranormal essence is enriched on every page of this unique, tear jerker, funny, jaw dropping, grab your attention history timeline that is so profound in this absorbing true life page turner. While, I was writing this story strange things happen, such as pictures falling off of the wall. The room would turn hot as my husband would sit down at my desk, while he read a couple of pages, he became ill and was forced to leave the room. I believe the first half of the story, the spirits of my ancestors planted visions in my thoughts as fore my writing experience, it was tearfully pleasant as I wrote under their narration.
I open up two sealed envelopes of my mother's life and my own gripping childhood story that was buried deep in a dark corner of my soul. My Italian ancestors were the first to dream and the first survivors to face tall adversaries as they traveled to the new world. Then, came my mother and I as we faced some of the same challenges in this vivid look back of how it all began.
My first book will always be special. It was an honor to write my mother's life story. It was a divine glance into my immigrant Italian grandparents and great grandparent's life. And, most importantly I fulfilled a promise that I would write this story someday. I wrote The Last Child with perserverance to see it through my eyes to the bittersweet end. And, most of all I thank God for giving me the strength to write it . The experience, the research, it brought out the best in me. Like, discovering my greatest passion to be a writer.
