Genre fiction that's not generic published through Wizards of the Coast and others. Seattle Theater Examiner for Examiner.com too!

Background Information

My motto is "genre fiction need not be generic!"  So, while I romp through a shared world series like Forgotten Realms, the books are becoming known as "one of those odd character things that Rosemary does" with my fellow Forgotten Realms authors.  My fans and a few reviewers call me "the one who writes funny stuff about the Realms."

Basically, I write what amuses me.  So the first book Crypt of the Moaning Diamond was a definite dungeon crawl and  homage to my late-night D&D sessions in college.  You know (if you're  gamer), those moments at 2 a.m. when throwing a fireball in a 10-foot square underground room seems sensible -- or jumping down a pit without knowing how deep it is or if there is a giant snake at the bottom. Or jumping when you know that there is a giant snake.  Of course, it's more than that. It's also the tale of a messy gal who can kick serious orc butt, a guy whose armor is fantastically shiny, and a little white dog in peril. Oh, and there's a siege warring over their heads, water is filling up the dungeon, and if they don't get out quick, a whole bunch of rock might fall on them while their friends keep arguing about the best way to escape.

The second book could be called an urban gothic fantasy set in a swords-and-sorcery world.  In the Realms' most fantastical city, Waterdeep, there's a mystery brewing the in the municipal graveyard. My heroine needs to keep one eye on the shubbery and the other one on the young wizard having too much fun following her around.  Oh, and the noble ghosts of Waterdeep are definitely in a restless mood.

City of the Dead is available in June from Wizards of the Coast.

Accomplishments

First place in the now defunct Phobos Contest for science fiction judged by Orson Scott Card and others. You can read the winning entry in the Pixeltown anthology. One of my early nonfiction books was a monthly top pick in the now defunct Book Sense. Basically, if I win an award, the organization seems to collapse within a few years -- so it's probably good that I've never gotten an Oscar!

Additional Information

New in March 2009: Seattle Theater Examiner at Examiner.com. My longtime newspaper gig reporting on local theaters vanished in February but I've found a new home at Examiner.com. I've also fallen in love with the ability to insert video into articles about performances.
