You wouldn't believe I was raised in North Carolina.

Background Information

My first book, The End of Software, was written as based on my experiences as President, Oracle On Demand.  In it we chronicled the economic reasons why delivering software as an on demand service made sense. When it was written in 2004 there were very few public companies delivering their software as a service - in fact, Salesforce.com, Netsuite and RightNow Technologies were all pre-public companies.

When I left Oracle I went back to Stanford University and started up the first class on SaaS/Software on Demand.  CS309A is now in it's fifth year and we've had some of the most significant leaders in delivering business and consumer software as a service out of the cloud.  Based on many of these lectures II wrote the book Cloud: Seven Clear Business Models to help people better understand the wide variety of ways software can be delivered and monetized - less hype - more information.

If you build, operate, sell, market or purchase application or infrastructure as a service you should read the book.
