My second-most perfect job would be Steve Thomas' job, the host of "This Old House." I'd love to peek over shoulders, try my hand at some task and then, after telling someone what a great job they're doing, move on to the next task. What a sweet job. The most perfect job? Writing fulltime. Writing and doing a restoration of an old house.

Background Information

I'm a great fan of John Irving -- I once stood in line to get his autograph and, when I finally reached his table, gave him a banana. I did it because I thought it significant, since it was a favorite food of the main character in "Hotel New Hampshire." That, and I wanted to give him something and all I had in my backpack was a banana. And I admire much of Hemingway's writing, though some is painful to read and I'm sure, if given a second chance, he would never have agreed to publishing it.
