Integrating Eastern and Western medicine is part of the answer to America’s healthcare crisis. In Optimal Healing: a Guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine Dr. Tsang explains how and why.

Background Information

Topic: Dr. Tsang, trained in both modalities, uses a scientific perspective to shed light on traditional Chinese medical (TCM) teachings. She explains the TCM approach to health and disease and compares it to the conventional Western approach. She discusses why there is an optimal way to integrate the two systems and she shares with Westerners how to recognize which conditions can be helped by TCM, which is a much less invasive, holistic approach to health and healing.

Biographical Information: Patricia Tsang, M.D. was born in Hong Kong and grew up in San Francisco. She received her M.D. from UCSF in 1963. She became interested in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) when as a third year medical student she contracted pneumonia followed by an intractable cough that wasn’t helped by drugs but finally was cured with Chinese herbs. She studied TCM at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1981 and then continued studying under the tutelage of Dr. Yat Ki Lai, L.Ac., O.M.D.

Expertise: Complementary ways to use TCM and Western Medicine to make the best of both worlds. She has effectively treated patients using an integration of her dual Eastern and Western training, long before integrative medicine acquired a name. She has written articles on TCM in San Francisco Medicine and lectured to both health care professionals and the lay public.

Optimal Healing is winner of the Indie Excellence Award and finalist in USA Book News Best Book Award
