I'm a 57-yr-old Canadian. Worked at many jobs until my early 40s... none of them long-term. I'm on a pension now due to bi-polar mood disorder (which explains why the novel took so long: write-destroy, write-destroy... ad nauseum). I am 3 times a father and I also have 2 granddaughters. I am twice-divorced but this has not made me jaded towards matrimony. When in public school, I wrote my first two novellas, which were naive to the extreme and were about wars past and future. My principal's friend, who was a published author, was kind enough to read one and told me he could see potential there...and I never wrote anything else for almost 40 years! My major influences are J. R. R. Tolkien, Frederik Pohl, Larry Niven, Clive Barker, and Stephen King. Any "hard science" in the novel comes from the writings of the physicist, Stephen Hawking. I classify my novels as being in the genre of dark fantasy...that is, not for children or sensitive people.
There were times when I truly hated these novels... which, by the way, the first grew to a trade paperback of 318 pages! I wanted to write books containing dark fantasy and speculative fiction. A couple of messages ended up getting slipped in, also: one about brotherhood, with the rewards and sacrifices involved plus another about redemption. I've been told that the first novel also is VERY political (I never noticed THAT!). I'd like to point out to those of you who check out the preview: this work is not an H.P. Lovecraft pastiche...the prologue and it's Cthuhlu/Dagon elements are just part of the story leading to the strange things poor old Paul Baker Colson is going to have to face. It ties in later in the novel. I hope I have given H. P. Lovecraft his due. The prologue originally was a short story homage.
The novels are both now available for Kindle and in paperback on amazon.com. As of now, I'm am a Gold member here again. I have been working on the 3rd book and working at getting my novels noticed. I was pleased when I recently found out I have 5 fans!
P.S. Please give me reviews on my poems, articles, etc. I want feedback, people, good and bad...I'm a big boy!
