Background Information

My mother experienced violent anti-Semitism as a child in Russia. Although she is now 104, she can still recall the terror with clarity.  She and her sisters survived and flourished in America. However, most of her remaining family perished in the Holocaust. This thought became a cumbersome stone attached to my soul - a lifelong burden. This is why I wrote Jacob's Courage. My ancestors lost everything - their homes, valuables, jobs, freedom, relatives, and finally - their children.  This book is for them.

Jacob's Courage is a tender coming of age love story of two young adults living in Salzburg at the time when the Nazi war machine enters Austria.  The historical novel presents scenes and situations of Jews in ghettos and concentration camps, with particular attention to Theresienstadt and Auschwitz.  It explores the dazzling beauty of passionate love and enduring bravery in a lurid world where the innocent are brutally murdered.  From desperate despair, to unforgettable moments of chaste beauty, Jacob’s Courage examines a constellation of emotions during a time of incomprehensible brutality.

Jacob's Courage is ranked #5 at Amazon for books tagged "Holocaust" and "popular." Reviewed by Jewish Book World and The Association of Jewish Libraries, as well as Holocaust experts, organizations and authors around the world, Jacob's Courage is called "gut wrenching and heart rending."  With a "driving relentless pace," Jacob's Courage brings a passionate love story to life.
