L.A. Jenkins was born Lisa Annette Jenkins on October 3 in a little Tennessee town called Maryville. She went home from Maryville Hospital to 245 W. Watt Street, Alcoa, Tennessee.
Jenkins had a colorful childhood. She started first grade at age five and graduated high school at 16. From first grade until graduation (in her junior year), she changed schools one to three times every year; either transferring to a brand new school or back to one she had attended previously and on occasion, back again. Her single mother moved the family quite a bit.
Jenkins attended two elementary schools in two different counties in Tennessee, two middle schools (Oakland, California, and Tennessee), and three high schools (two on the West side of Knoxville, Tennessee, and the other in Richmond, California). In her junior year, the family moved again to the other side of town and Jenkins would have had a different Alma mater had she not graduated that year.
L.A. Jenkins began her college career at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville on an Engineering scholarship.Seventeen years and two beautiful little girls later she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Communication at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
