Did you know that ancestry and genealogy research can help you find your writing voice?

Background Information

Ancestry research and genealogy studies as well as good-old family storytelling sessions influenced my writing of my first book.  I am a high school English teacher (23 years now) and have found my voice.  I enjoy writing comfortably descriptive prose about what I have found after researching.

Book back cover:  Although times were tough for Eliott, he says he doesn't remember feeling that he was poor.  "Up until I was about nine, our living conditions were closer to those who lived in the forties."

Always a fan of writer Earl Hamner, Elliott writes about his feelings and adventures growing up in Southern Indiana.  His parents and grandparents were born in the foothills of the Appalacian Mountains...but they left there before he was born.

"Since I wasn't born until they all lived in Southern Indiana, I wanted to know more about why they left Kentucky.--They all spoke of it so effectionately."  His findings inspired him to write this new memoir / biography published by Outskirts Press, November 17, 2009.

Additional Information

One reviewer said: "'Elliott's book is like sitting down with a dear old friend on the front porch, on a warm summer's day, reminiscing the day away. --His stories fit like a comfortable pair of jeans.'"
